Hello and welcome to a topic not comfortably discussed in polite, open company. During this article, you’ll see the word “PEARL,” followed by a critical takeaway message. As a urologist, I have met countless men who expressed concerns about having a small penis during an exam for other reasons (kidney stones, prostate enlargement, etc.) PEARL I am happy to inform you that 99.9% of men DO NOT have what is known as a micropenis.

So, where the heck does all this size anxiety come from!? Sadly, it comes from many sources, with internet porn leading the way. On just about every heterosexual porn site there will be an actor with a giant baseball bat sized penis enthusiastically pounding away at an anorexic appearing actress. (Of course, she is apparently in the throes of continuous earth-shattering orgasm!) Upon seeing this, the male brain comes to several (wrong) conclusions. “A large penis equals sexual proficiency.” and “That guy’s penis is of normal size so I must be small.” This way of thinking is like watching an NBA game where the average height of players is 6’7″ and considering yourself short because you’re only 6’2″! Of course, if you were just a bit taller, you could play at the level of an NBA player! Despite the fact, there are hundreds of talented, really tall guys that don’t make it.

Since we are all being honest here, I believe most men have measured their penis at some time in their lives. (hmm…but are you a shower or a grower?) PEARL There’s no relationship between the size of a penis when flaccid to the size it becomes when erect. Study after study found that the average erect penis length is similar for most adult men, around 5 inches, but the dimensions of flaccid penises vary tremendously. That’s certainly reassuring, but we all know that one guy whose nickname is coke bottle or some other equally descriptive moniker. He’s that butt-naked guy, prancing around the locker room with his manhood swinging hither and fro. He’s knocking over water bottles and creating small dust storms in its wake. Sadly, the rest of us are modestly covered with a towel, hating our luck for being mere mortals.

So what is the real reason men are preoccupied with penis size? Maybe it’s the fundamental belief that bigger is better or that we measure our sexual prowess based on a partner’s perceived sexual satisfaction? But what do women want? Let’s start with a look at the female anatomy for a moment. PEARL In one study on vaginas, they discovered that they come in various shapes and more importantly, they found that the vaginas ranged from around 3 to 6 inches. They stretch and elongate to accommodate the penis! This correlation makes sense that penile lengths should roughly approximate vaginal lengths. So going back to the porn industry, actresses are likely to be selected for their vagina’s ability to accommodate the overly long penis.

But like a car’s horsepower, even if we can’t explore the limits of a 600-horsepower sports car on city streets, there is an attraction to having, well…just…MORE. There is good news, and there is bad news on making changes to the size of your penis.

First, the bad news, techniques, and surgery to increase the length of your penis carry the increased risk of impotence and damage. OK, AGAIN, WHAT DO WOMEN WANT?? Well…women overwhelming prefer girth (circumference) over length. The reason again is female anatomy. The most sensitive part of the vaginal area is the clitoris and NOT her cervix.

Now for the good news! There is a non-surgical treatment that adds girth to the penis! With the advancements in the technology of dermal fillers, there has been a breakthrough in non-surgical penile enhancement. These products are FDA approved to enhance the face are instead used to increase penis girth upwards of 30%! This increase in size can place you solidly in the “shower” category!

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body used for wound repair and skin healing. As you begin to age, you lose hyaluronic acid and collagen, which causes your skin to lose volume. The human body utilizes it to maintain moisture in the body. The average-sized human contains about 15 grams (3 teaspoons) of it. Each gram can hold over 200 ounces of water! In the penile enlargement procedure, I use modified hyaluronic acid. One of the most popular and long-lasting dermal fillers is Voluma XC. These fillers are injected deep into the tissue but are formulated with lidocaine, a numbing medication, so that patients have a more comfortable treatment experience. Voluma XC is initially soft so that any irregularities are gently smoothed out. It can be completely dissolved by a reversal agent to ensure that patients get the results they want!

  • No previous history of permanent injectable implants

  • Patients that have all of their concerns addressed before the procedure

No pain. No hospital. No general anesthesia. No downtime. No incisions. No spending the kids’ tuition.

The enlargement procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about an hour to complete. Patients can return to regular activity immediately after treatment with certain precautions. Final results are evident after 1-2 weeks as the dermal fillers absorb water to give the penis its bulking effect. Complete stabilization of the results takes approximately 3-4 weeks. Patients report increases in an erection’s girth in proportion to the amount of filler used. However, results may not be as noticeable when flaccid. Everyone’s body degrades dermal filler differently, and we all have different skin, muscle, and tissue thickness, so experiences vary. Therefore, your results will depend on your initial size and the amount of filler injected. For example, the injection of 15 ml of filler will produce a 15-30% increase in the circumference of the shaft of the penis depends on the initial starting size. In addition to the thickness increasing, after a higher volume injection of 15 ml or more, some patients report some flaccid penile lengthening occurs. Dermal fillers typically can last up to two years; however, there have been reports of dermal fillers lasting as long as 3 to 5 years.
